The Foundation «Deus abençoe a África» (God bless Africa) is a foundation registered in Mozambique. The foundation consists of volunteers and its target group is children aged 0-5 years who are admitted to the Central Hospital of Nampula (Hospital Central de Nampula - HCN).
In the pediatric ward of the HCN, the foundation has set up a play-o-theque where hospitalized children can come to read, play, paint and many other activities. The volunteers present guide the children and hand out a small snack (cookies and juice). The children are also given weekly soap with which to wash themselves and their clothes.
On holidays such as June 1 (International Children's Day), June 16 (African Children's Day) and at Christmas, special activities are organized for the children and food, cake, toys and school materials are distributed. The foundation has been doing this since 2007 at the HCN and since 2010 at Marere District Hospital and Muhala Health Center in Nampula.
The foundation helps hospitalized children from needy families purchase (from private pharmacies) prescription medications not available in the hospital pharmacy and distribute nutritional supplements and personal care items. This group of children must meet certain criteria. The purchase and administration of specific medication is supervised by a doctor associated with the foundation. The foundation teaches parents/caregivers about healthy eating and hygiene.
The foundation depends entirely on donations and the work of volunteers
